Collapsed Sewer Pipe Repair in Perth

Collapsed sewer pipe repair in Perth depends on how much of the pipe is left. A cracked, broken or partly collapsed section can often be cleared and relined. A fully collapsed section usually has to be dug out first. A CCTV inspection shows which one you have before anyone quotes.

  • The camera decides between relining and digging, not the quote

Camera before any quote

We run CCTV to the damage so you see what is left of the pipe before a fix is chosen.

Honest about the limit

A liner needs a pipe to form against. Where a section has fully collapsed, we say so.

Keep any dig short

Where only one section has gone, the rest of the run can often still be relined.

Know what you have

Collapsed, broken or cracked: three different jobs

"Collapsed" gets used for anything from a hairline crack to a pipe that has caved in completely. The difference decides the repair, so it is worth being precise.

  • Cracked or broken, still in place. The wall has fractured, or a length has split, but the pieces are still roughly where they should be and the bore is open. This is the kind of damage relining is built for.

  • Partly collapsed or deformed. Part of the wall has dropped or pushed in, narrowing the pipe, but there is still a continuous channel. Once it is cleared and the loose material is out, it can often be relined.

  • Fully collapsed. The wall has caved in and sand has filled the gap. There is no shape left for a liner to cure against, so that section has to be excavated and replaced.

What to look for

Signs a sewer pipe has broken or collapsed

  • The lowest fixture in the house, often a shower or floor waste, backs up first.
  • A drain blocks again soon after clearing, or the jetter will not get past one point.
  • A dip, soft patch or small hole appears in the lawn or paving over the line.
  • A sewage smell outside with no obvious blockage inside.
  • Pavers or a path above the pipe start to sink or crack.

Perth's sandy ground is why the dip in the lawn matters. Water leaking out of a break carries sand away with it, and the void grows. Several of these signs also point to roots or a simple blockage, so see signs your pipes need relining or blocked drains in Perth if you are not sure.

One sewer run, two repairs

A sewer run with a collapsed section and a cracked section A side view of one length of sewer pipe. The left and right parts are cracked but hold their round shape and are marked as relined, with a liner drawn inside. The middle part has caved in, with the top of the pipe pushed down to the bottom, and is marked as dug and replaced. Cracked: relined Collapsed: dug Cracked: relined

Confirm it first

What the camera shows before anyone digs

A CCTV drain inspection runs a camera along the sewer from an existing access point. On a damaged line it tells us three things: where the damage starts and ends, whether the camera can pass it, and what the pipe is made of.

A camera stopping at one point does not prove a full collapse. Sand and broken pipe in the bore can look like a wall that has gone. So where it is safe to, we clear the line and send the camera through again. That second look can be the difference between a short dig and no dig at all.

The two outcomes

When a broken section can be relined, and when it needs a dig

Relining works when the pipe still holds a continuous shape, even a battered one. After clearing, a resin-saturated liner goes in through an access point and cures hard against the old wall, forming a new pipe inside it. The cracks and broken joints are sealed over from the inside, and the paving, garden or slab above stays where it is. How pipe relining works covers the steps, and sewer pipe relining covers a typical house sewer.

A spot dig is needed when a section has fully caved in, when the pipe has pulled apart so far there is no channel left, or when the ground has dropped and left a deep belly. A liner cannot rebuild a wall that is not there, and no curing method changes that. The collapsed length comes out and new pipe goes in, and the same team can do that dig. We reline where the pipe allows it and dig only where it genuinely needs it.

One collapsed section does not always mean replacing the whole line. Where the rest of the run is cracked but still in shape, the dig can stay as short as the collapse, and the rest can be relined from inside.

How we work out the repair for your pipe

  1. Camera to the fault

A CCTV camera goes in from an existing access point and travels the line until it reaches the damage, or until it cannot go any further.

  2. Clear and look again

Where the pipe can be cleared, we clear it and run the camera back through, because debris often hides whether the wall is broken or gone.

  3. A plain recommendation

Reline the run, dig the collapsed section and reline the rest, or dig. You see the footage the call is based on, and get it as a written scope.

Cost

What a collapsed sewer repair costs

We will not put a figure on it before the camera has been down the line. The answer swings on whether a section needs digging, how long the relined run is, and what sits on top of it. Pipe relining cost in Perth goes through each variable.

Questions about collapsed sewer pipes

Can a collapsed sewer pipe be relined without digging?
Sometimes. If the pipe has cracked, broken or partly caved in but still forms a continuous channel the camera can travel through, it can often be cleared and relined without a trench. If a section has fully collapsed and there is no bore left for a liner to form against, that section has to be dug out and replaced. The rest of the run may still be relined once it is.
Is a collapsed sewer pipe an emergency?
If sewage is backing up inside the building or surfacing in the yard, treat it as urgent and stop using the fixtures that drain to that line. A collapse rarely gets better on its own, because water leaking from the break keeps washing sand away from the pipe. Tell us what you are seeing, because it changes how we schedule the camera.
What if the collapsed pipe is asbestos cement?
Asbestos cement pipe was widely laid in Perth and a lot of it is still in the ground. We do not handle or certify asbestos removal ourselves. We assess the pipe on camera. Sections that still hold their shape can be relined in place; a section that has truly collapsed has to come out, and that excavation follows licensed asbestos removal rules.
Whose responsibility is a collapsed sewer pipe?
Broadly, drainage on your side of the connection point belongs to the property, and the main beyond it does not. In strata, a shared line is usually common property even when the problem shows up in one lot. The camera run shows where the collapse sits relative to that boundary, and if it is not yours, we will tell you rather than quote for it.

Think your sewer pipe has collapsed?

Tell us what the drain is doing and where the property is. We will get the camera to the damage, show you what is left of the pipe, and tell you straight whether it can be relined.

Have you already had a pipe relining quote?
