Pipe Relining Insurance Claims in Perth
A pipe relining insurance claim in Perth is decided by your policy and by what caused the damage. What you can control is the evidence. CCTV footage and a written scope show the assessor what failed, where, and what the repair involves.

Cover depends on your policy, not on the repair method
Whether a claim is paid is set by your policy wording and the cause of the damage. Wordings commonly treat sudden damage from an identifiable event differently from gradual deterioration, wear, corrosion or root intrusion. Relining or digging up does not change which side of that line your pipe falls on.
Some policies also treat the pipe itself and the damage it caused separately, such as water through a wall or a floor that has moved. Read your policy for how it handles gradual damage and wear, then ask the insurer directly.
We cannot tell you what your policy will pay, and we will not guess. What we can give you is a clear record of the pipe, so the decision is made on evidence.
What CCTV footage shows an assessor
A CCTV drain inspection puts a camera through the line from an existing access point. The footage shows the inside of your pipe, not a description of it:
- The pipe material, such as clay, concrete, cast iron or PVC.
- Each fault: a crack, an open or displaced joint, a root mass, a collapsed section or a sag.
- Where along the run each fault sits, and how far it extends.
- Whether the fault looks like a single break or wear spread along the line.
That last point is often what an assessor weighs against the policy wording, and it is the one a verbal description gets wrong most easily. The footage shows it as it is, whichever way it reads.
What goes in the written scope
The written scope turns the footage into something an insurer can file. It sets out what the camera found and where, the repair we propose for each section, and whether that is relining, a dig, or both. It is written to be read without us in the room, so a claims officer or an assessor can follow it.
It also prices the work we measured, which gives the insurer a real figure to assess rather than an estimate over the phone. For what moves that price, see pipe relining cost in Perth.
Questions to ask your insurer
- Does my policy cover the pipe itself, the damage it caused, or both?
- How does my policy treat gradual damage, wear and tree root intrusion?
- Do you want to send your own assessor or plumber before any work starts?
- Will you accept CCTV footage and a written scope from the contractor I choose?
- Do you need to approve the repair method or the quote before work begins?
- What should I do to make the property safe while the claim is assessed?
- Is there an excess, and does it apply to this kind of claim?
Write down who you spoke to and what they said. If the answer changes later, you have a record.
Claims on a strata building policy
On a strata property the first question is whose pipe it is. A shared sewer on common property usually goes through the building policy, handled by the strata manager or committee. A line serving one lot may be the owner's responsibility. The scope marks where each fault sits, which gives the manager a clear basis to decide. Our strata pipe relining page covers how we scope shared drains for committee sign-off.
For a house, residential pipe relining covers the job itself. If you are not yet sure the pipe is the problem, start with signs your pipes need relining. The FAQs cover insurance alongside cost and lifespan.
The order that keeps your claim options open
-
Call your insurer first
Tell them what the drain is doing and ask how they want the claim handled before any repair.
-
Camera through the line
A CCTV inspection records where the damage is, what it is and how far it runs.
-
A written scope
What we found, where, and the repair we propose, in a form you can forward to the insurer.
-
The insurer decides
They assess the claim against your policy. The repair goes ahead once you know where you stand.
